One of the questions we get all the time regards how transparent we at Raconteur Press actually are with our authors.
It is a sorry state of affairs with the publishing industry that the fact that we’re being open and transparent with our authors is treated with suspicion — it doesn’t say nice things about (traditional) publishing. At all.
As an effort to show that “Yes, we are actually that open” we went ahead and published our anthology contract over at the Raconteur Press substack. Yes — that’s our contract1, along with some explantions.
Not only that, but because we use Pubshare for all of our anthologies, any one of our anthology authors can log into the Pubshare website and see how many books that author is involved with have been sold, how many pages have been read, and get an estimate2 of what the upcoming royalty cheque will be.
Ian promised that Raconteur Press would be as open and transparent as we can be. We’re following through on that promise.
We know that it’s hard for authors — especially ones who have already been burned before — to believe that a press can actually be transparent, but we’re trying.

The “Example Only” watermark is on there because our lawyer got a twitch when Ian said we were going to let everyone look at our contract.
Sorry, it can only be an estimate.
I'm going to leave a testimonial here. Having been published by Raconteur Press a number of times over the past two years, the sample contract they put up on their Substack is the actual contract. I'm an Accountant in my day job and I sign nothing before I read it. Raconteur Press' actions match their promises.
Thats how business ought to look be done!
May all success be yours and market dominance to follow!
