The narrow border of the Jack Wylder version had my framing guy cussing but he got the job done. Hanging on the bedroom wall and it helps me start the day right.
I remember when a conservative radio commentator read this on the air, back when I was living on the west coast in California. I know I've mentioned it before, and I forget now who it was (the guy's inlaws are all Marines). I also forget if he attributed it or not. He did say something about either he found it, or someone who had, gave it to him.
This has always warmed the little cockroaches of my heart. I cherish the Wylder print of your work, and the color print is a source of joy to me as I check my range card.
Pretty sure I read your version about 15 years ago. Didn't pay much attention when I saw it after that as I assumed it was just the same version floating around. Well done. Good metaphor.
Might make a nice t-shirt. Picture of plate of crumbs with a caption above that says "The Gun Rights Cake" and underneath, "or what's left of it, after all the compromise". You have my permisssion to use this idea without attribution or recompense. 😁
I bought a print of this as a gift to the friend who first told me about the cake, not knowing whence the story came. When he received the poster, signed by The LawDog, he was pleased and amazed.
It’s how the communists expanded during the 50s and 60s; Dulles used a sandwich analogy, they never take a bite big enough to fight over, and when you only have a crust left that’s not worth a fight either.
And never forget that going back to the first push in the 60s, the grabbers insisted that the compromise legislation would settle the issue once and for all. That’s another commie ruse and a bald faced lie.
The issue with compromise is that the other side is never satisfied with what was given up. Nor do they recognize that there are already legal/judicial impositions on the books!
The Progressives are unwilling to use them.
Witness the New York State legislature when it comes to anti-2A laws. There is already a Federal or State law already on the books that covers thier current fevered tyranny. Yet, they still pursue it like it will eliminate violent human behavior. Forever and ever.
Yep. I well remember when you published it. Best piece of factual dismembering I've ever read. Even an idiot could understand it, though Democrats seem not to. And on the humor side, I think your absolute, without even a close second, is the pink gorilla suit.
Wow Ian, I had no idea that cake analogy was yours, I have seen versions for years. I will have to hustle over to the link and investigate buying a copy of the Wylder.

Sounds like Neal Boortz
It could have been Hewlit as well. I just don't recall. Used to listen to them on the commute home from work.
"Driving home from work" probably indicates Hugh Hewett. I used to listen to him on the way home, too.

And I'm never not sharing this!
Is the Jack Wylder one still available for sale? Excellent Article, by the way.
It is!

Someone forgot to inform the criminals.
Fundamental rights and moral issues should never be compromised.
Kinda how in old Blighty they didn't stop with guns, but started going after knives. Like all knives.
Sharpened bits of fresh fruit will be next.
I had forgotten that you originated this Ian. It is brilliant and I’ve used it often.
Thank you!
I've read versions of this several times, but I'd never realized that you were the original author. Congratulations on a job well done!
Just as true now as it was then, perhaps more so! Thanks, Ian!!
Are you sure that wasn't originally Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret.)?
*ducks*

First time I have seen this.
Nicely done.
Do you still have some for sale, Sir?
