I have heard it called a "wood shampoo" by some cop friends. I was 23, a sailor fresh back from a 2 year deployment . Was in Hayward, CA and had been making an unsuccessful speed run on a young lady at a bar, which failed. It was closing time, I was very drunk. She left with someone else. When I finished my last beer I went outside and noticed 2 policemen had detained her and the guy she left with. Could have been a drug bust, it was the early 70s. I called out to the policemen, "Whadda yer doing, you two? Leave 'er alone!!" I guess those cops noticed the that extra exclamation point. One said, "Beat it." I stood my ground. Next thing I knew, one of the cops had both my arms behind my back and lifted them to an unnatural angle and asked me, "Are you gonna get the eff outta here when I let you go?" I squeaked a courteous military "Yes Sir". My lucky day. A valuable lesson, even for someone who most of the time tries to be polite, civil and courteous because that is how I was raised. (Sober since 19 September 1978.)

Never thought I’d ever write this down, but the statute of limitations has long expired. In seventh grade I was the administrator of an educational beat down.

New to the school, overweight, wore glasses, and too smart for my own good (i.e. classic nerd). Of course I was the target of bullies, kinda went with the territory. Most were verbal attacks which I always ignored, but this once… There was a big kid that looked like he should have moved on from Jr. High a year or so ago. He decided I was prey and would hassle me for my lunch dessert. I gave in a couple of times hoping he’d just go away. Yeah I was young and not street smart, yet. One day he escalated the harassment and was demanding money. Not sure why that crossed a line with me, but it did. I knew he was going to fight me and I knew I’d lose. So while he was telling me how tough he was, I raked my boot clad foot down his shin and stomped his foot hard, with all my weight behind it. He was surprised and hurting, I calmly walked away like nothing had happened. I didn’t get observed by any teachers, and I never interacted with him ever again.

For the writers and readers out there: One of the best examples of an educational beatdown in fiction is Owen vs. the Gnomes in Larry Correia's Monster Hunter Vendetta. It ticks all the boxes of how to earn yourself a Shit-Kicking of Gentle Correction.
