So, this season’s version of Mongolian rabies landed on me with all four nasty little feetsies.
Technically speaking, what I probably have is “Human Metapneumovirus”, which is a fancy term for one of any number of virii that group together under the heading of “common cold”.
Usually it’s the standard “cough, runny nose, sore throat”, but this year’s variant of HMPV seems to like to randomly go, “Oh, why not?” and turn into pneumonia. Given my past history with pneumonia, Rita is being very attentive, so I’m in good hands.
I’m a little worried, because her lungs aren’t any better than mine, and I really don’t want her catching this, but I’ve probably been shedding HMPV all over the place, so “What will be, will be” and all that. We’re stocked up on soup and tea, and the dogs are excellent nurses.
I’m going to start reading the submissions for Plasma Pulp after I send this out, and I’m groggily looking forward to these stories. The absolute cheese-fest that is 1980s Flash Gordon was a favourite of mine when it came out, and I’m pleased to report that time has not dulled that wonderful corn-ball movie.
Visually stunning, and with both Max von Sydow and Brian Blessed gleefully chewing the scenery, it’s going to be a hard act for our authors to follow, and I can’t wait to read their stories.
I’m going to mainline some Naprosyn, open another bag of cough drops, and dig in.
See y’all in a bit.
Ian
Remember - a cold lasts 14 days with treatment, or two weeks without.
Try the Ricola honey herb (orange bag) cough drops.
Me, my wife, and my daughter caught something early November, and it didn't fully go away until the start of January. After the first couple days it wasn't that bad, just sick enough to not want to do much. We kept thinking we were over it, and then we'd go to church or get groceries or whatever and it was like, "Oh, no, you left your house and saw your shadow. Six more days of illness." Anyway, that's why the leaves in the front yard are only half-raked.
