IMO, if your first instinct to shots fired is not to run in and stop the shooters, you shouldn't be a police officer. They should turn in their badges and become security guards instead. I have no respect for an armed officer who does not go in and stop the shooters.

What a complete shitshow.

Dale Flowers's avatar

Become security guards? But that'd require intellect, physical fitness, some level of martial training, a commitment to service and sacrifice for the wellbeing of others. Probably not firemen, EMT's, kindergarten teachers, dogcatchers, stretcher bearers, tax collectors, or any public service bureaucracy job.

Three of those four were women, and they all were cowering in fear. (The guy too).

Apparently the aussie police can only deal with unarmed subjects, and only when they won't break a nail.

Jaywalkers and thought-crime dissenters. Not people attempting to use Deadly Force on the disarmed populace.

Kamas716's avatar

Well, they've got to be ready to crack down on any juveniles utilizing social media

My almost 60 yr old broken ass would have been trying to do something too. I can't even with first responders not jumping in

Ted Begley's avatar

This is disgraceful. Everything about this except for the unarmed civilian who disarmed the one attacker should hang their heads in shame. The unarmed civilian should drink free in any bar in Australia for the rest of his life. This is exactly the reason why I'm getting my CCDW permit. Jaysus.

Mary Catelli's avatar

At least one of those killed was throwing a brick at the attackers when shot. Or so I heard.

David Bock's avatar

It's okay, Ian. They were only killing Jews. Since there was no Islamophobia present, there was no need for the police to respond promptly.

Before anyone gets butthurt, this is sarcasm. I'm Jewish and spend every Saturday morning playing speed bump in front of Temple during services.

It seems that (per possibly erroneous reporting - SEE "7 2-hour rule" - the civilian who went after the killers was a Muslim - I truly hope this is true, as I am highly aggravated about how I'm being forced into hating an entire religion by those religionists actions.

I'll be happy to find out that not all of them are Mandanis.

Dale Flowers's avatar

I think most people would be happily surprised, too, Duke. While I loathe DEI, wouldn't it be "better" if the militant deranged wackos were spread across ethnicities, races, religions and political ideologies in the spirit of equity? I dunno...tiger stripes, leopard spots, crocodile grins...maybe it's better that when we see an Orc, we call it an Orc.

Hey, I've a great idea - agreeing with your suggestion, a combination of Urban Renewal (Compulsory) and Eminent Domain (already Compulsory) should be enacted.

Anyone with more than 1 house, or with 1 house valued at, umm, >$100,000 and having more than 4 bedrooms, shall have "undocumented immigrants" moved in with them permanently.

*cough* Executive Order... Are you reading this, President Trump? *cough*

Dale Flowers's avatar

Pretty sure (but not certain) that doesn't violate the letter of the law re the 3rd Amendment as long as the new tenants are not soldiers. My house has only 3 bedrooms, so I might be OK with an executive order. If nothing else, it might make a few of the right heads explode.

These days a middle-class family's home is worth more like a quarter million dollars. So that should probably be your base. And make it registered democrats and other woketards.

fast richard's avatar

Are there still houses valued at less than $100,000? If so, where are they? Do they actually have HVAC, indoor plumbing, gas, and electric service?

I've heard Marionite Christian from Lebanon.

Steve S6's avatar

Guess they got soft arresting unarmed citizens over mean tweets. (that's the kinder gentler view)

Dale Flowers's avatar

Maybe the cops have a good union that's looking out for them. Officer Safety & Going home alive at the End of Shift are powerful mantras, Steve.

Steve S6's avatar

Follow orders is another.

I am not surprised. Remember the Uvalde, Texas school shooting. No one did anything for over an hour! So, we should not be surprised. Insulted, yes, but not surprised.

Ian's avatar

Yes, and I publicly called for the entire force to "Remember their honor" at the time, too.

I read elsewhere that one of that one of that father/son Pakistani/Moslem terrorist team who were there on visas was granted a firearms license to own 5 firearms. Do we want to outsource to the government the responsibility to do the vetting for granting firearms licenses? That begs the question...how much do we really want to outsource to the government?

Duke of URL's avatar

Only the absolute bare minimum, that's for sure!

Took my wife to the ER this weekend, and the security guard made me go back and walk in the other door because only one of the entry doors had a metal detector. Then he made me walk over to his desk because I set the detector off. As he dug through my backpack, finding a steel water bottle, scissors for my ostomy supplies, iPad, and Kindle, I really wanted to ask him if he felt he was getting paid enough to be the first official sacrifice to the gods of Woke at the hospital. He wasn't armed, nor did he have a vest. And all his buddies in the room behind were dressed the same. Nobody even noticed my knife nor my Leatherman. Kabuki Theater is the worst sort of security.

In a socialist country, people are bricks in the wall of the state. If you get broken or killed, there are plenty of other bricks.

Let me posit the following. Aussie police are very DEI in hiring. They do not come from former military in any numbers. They likely train once a year to qualify for gun carry. They are not likely to run towards the sound of gunfire. Witness accounts say the poljce froze in place which confirms my assumption on training. Yeah, waiting for SWAT is probably SOP.

Government at Work

We want YOU for our Glorious Motherland!

[Insert uncivil and disrespectful comments {sulphurously and copiously qualified}, including several obscenities and scatological observations of explicit vulgarity here.]

Duke of URL's avatar

[a] The only "duty" cops have under socialist/communist governments is to protect (1) the government, then (2) themselves. Proles are insignificant.

[b] Australia despises Jews & loves Musims - those on-scene cops would've known who was being shot at and approved.

And this is why, every day since 2013 when the People's Republic of Illinois finally "legalized" what the constitution clearly states, and allowed their citizens to go armed in public... I have never left my house without a firearm on my person. And never will.

Dan Poore's avatar

And that's even before you get into the other significant problem of only the government being armed.

Just get an Ouija board and ask the Lakota who were at Wounded Knee how that works out.

(I'm deliberately not mentioning the obvious example given the context of THIS shooting's targets.)

Derek's avatar

All men armed. Bring back the hue and cry.

GWB's avatar

Yes. Bring back the idea that the community is responsible and a posse (or militia) is a good thing.

GWB's avatar

7. To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.

Puts perspective on the "Only the police can/should save me" POV. (Robert Peel's Principles, the guy who "invented" civilian policing.)

Well, guess the formatting doesn't work.
