Better to think it through beforehand than in the heat of the moment when you may not make a logical decision. I draw the line at property crimes though. Stealing a car or some other valuable object should not be a death sentence. Of course that changes if the car is being used for deadly force.

And, for gods sake, dont use your $5k secret squirrel pistol for home defense, the fuzz will confiscate it and you will never get it back. DOn’t use hand loads in your defensive firearm. An aggressive DA will turn you into the villan over that shit. No punisher skulls on the grips or backplates either, it will bite you in the end.

Because I understand where that line is, I do everything I can to try and avoid those things happening in my life. To be honest, I'm not worried about the legal issues I'll face and all the associated crap, as much as I'm worried about having to live with having had to take that step.
Number One - subscribe to a 24/7 legal service specifically for individuals in deadly force situations so you have the ability to call a lawyer ASAP and make sure you aren't railroaded by the cops when you have to do what you have to do with a very evil person who has pushed his way into your life and forced your hand.
I've found it difficult to get folks to talk about this. In some of the firearms classes I've attended, the conversation was exclusively about local law and the "requirements" needing to be fulfilled before defending one's self. Very, very few individuals seem to want to engage in the kind of discussion you suggest. Some part of this might be fear ... fear of having those convesations "used against them" as part of a legal discovery process post-shooting. The biggest irony is that the miscreant kicking in your window AC at 3am has never been (nor will ever be) troubled by any such moral quandaries. If he were, he wouldn't be kicking in someone's window AC at 3am.
