The Nobel Peace Prize
Irrelevant and inconsequential.
The White House and a whole bunch of supporters of the POTUS are all up in a tizzy about him not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize this year.
I’m going to very gently and very seriously ask one question:
… Why do you care?
In August of 1929 a greasy little Skidmark On The Knickers Of History named Mohammed Abdel Rahman Abdel Raouf Arafat al-Qudwa al-Husseini crawled out from under a rock. Between that date, and 11 NOV 2004 — when he died of Russian Measles1 — this little bugsnipe was personally responsible for the attempted destabilisation of Jordan, the complete destabilisation of Lebanon, the formation of multiple terror groups, destroying the innocence of the Olympic Games, and enough tortured and dead bodies to earn him a respectable listing on any listing of mass murderers.
On 14 OCT 1994 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize under the name “Yasser Arafat”. It should also be noted that five days after he got his medal for peace (19 OCT 1994), a terror group formed under Arafat’s example, and quietly supported by him2, sent a handy Useful Idiot onto a Tel Aviv passenger bus wearing 20 kilograms of military explosive and a metric butt-ton of nails. The resulting explosion killed 22 innocent people, and injured 104 more.
But he got a Nobel Peace Prize out of it.
On 09 OCT 2009 — nine months into his first term as US President, eight years into the Global War on Terror, with US forces on the ground in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and raining Hellfire missiles upon deserving heads in “neutral, non-involved countries”3 — Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for …
… basically not being George W. Bush.
Ok?
But he got a Nobel Peace Prize out of it.
On the other paw, Mohandas Karamchand “Mahatma” Gandhi never, ever received a Nobel Peace Prize, despite being nominated five (5) times. This puts him in such good company as Pope John Paul the Second, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Sima Samar.
So, I ask — gently and seriously — why do y’all care that Trump didn’t get it this year? If it means anything, I guess he’s in good company.
Near as I can tell, getting the Nobel Peace Prize nets you a medal, a certificate, and some money. I’m fairly certain that Donald Trump doesn’t need the money, and can buy as many medals and certificates as his heart desires.
It’s an irrelevant award, given out to whomever politics consider worthy at the time, and thus is entirely inconsequential. It’s a “Yay, Me!” sticker, and — to be completely honest — has the same gravitas as any other “Yay, Me!” sticker.
Also — it’s not a one-time award. It happens every year. If getting one means that much to him, he’s got (realistically) three more years. Be patient.

Supported when it was convenient, and “publicly disavowed” when unconvenient.
Whoo. Typed that with a straight face.

I figured out that "human rights" and allusions to peace-mongering were pure-dee bullcorn when the UN put Libya at the head of their useless Human Rights Council all those years ago. Why, oh why, do we send money to such obviously farcical organizations? Who cares what any of them think, in the face of such meaninglessness? The Nobel bunch can stuff it all by their ownsome. Presumably, the horse they rode in on is blameless and should come to no harm.
Agreed. I could not care less about Nobel anything, Oscars, Emmys, Peabodys, Grammys, or any other award granted to celebrities by other celebrities. The whole idea of these is a self licking ice cream cone and has zero impact on my life.
