So, Iran. Part 3
Ian, why should we care?
On yesterday’s post, Gentle Reader Alec Swann posted the following comment:
Who cares about Iran when Trump just surrendered to Walz. We get infinity Somalis and infinity scams and infinity taxes on us to pay for it. Again who cares? A bunch of savages in a foreign land don't concern me, the ones in my land do.
“A bunch of savages in a foreign land don’t concern me, the ones in my land do.”
Funny you should mention that.
Does everyone know why we’re hip-deep in Somalis? If you answer “Because Somalia is a war-torn hell-hole, and we’re ate-up with suicidal empathy?” Correct! However …
Do you know one1 of the reasons why Somalia is a war-torn hell-hole?
Because Iran has been funnelling weapons to al-Shabaab, Abnaa ul-Calipha2 and others.
Because Iran, directly, and through proxies, is keeping the entire Horn of Africa stirred up.3
Like it or not — and I don’t — the Refugee Act of 1980 is the law of the land. Unless, and until, the United States Congress grows a pair and changes that idiot law4, we have to accept a minimum of 50,0005 refugees a year. And, boy howdy, do the Somalis understand this.
However, if ‘somebody’6 would bloody well stop sending weapons, cash, and training to Somalia, a greatly-restricted flow of weapons and cash means that Somalia will probably go back to African Standard Atrocity levels. Which means that Somalis still in Somalia will lose the ability to claim refugee status, and those Somalis who made it to the US will lose their Temporary Protected Status.
Don’t “mew-mew-mew” at me. Yes, I sodding realize that DHS is ending Temporary Protected Status from Somalis who have made it to the States as of March, 2026; but as long as Somalia is in an Iran-funded and Iran-supplied war if the Federal judges who will be overseeing the inevitable lawsuits follow Federal Law — see Refugee Act of 1980, above — there is ample legal precedent for Secretary Noem’s decision to be overridden and the Somalis Temporary Protected Status reinstated.
If the mullahs fall — the weapons, cash, and training stop flowing to Somalia.
If the weapons, cash, and training stop flowing to Somalia — the Somali-based terror groups suddenly become a lot less capable.
If the terror groups are less capable — the Somali government forces regain the ability to apply the bog-standard African Government Knee on the necks of their idiots.
If the Somali government pacifies the majority of their idiots — it becomes harder for Somali “refugees” Stateside to legally fight repatriation back to Somalia; and Somalia comes off of the refugee list.
If Somalia is off of the refugee list — Somalis don’t get to loophole into those 150,000, sorry 50,000 refugees that the idiot law our idiot Congresscritters passed allows, and the flow of Somalis gets choked off.
This, and multiple other reasons, is why the situation in Iran interests me.
Ian
Of the many, many, Freyja-only-knows-how-many reasons.
AKA ISIS-Somalia.
And Gaza. And the West Bank. And Lebanon. And Yemen. And the Trans-Sahel. And … ad infinitum.
And they won’t.
Hint: We accept a hell of a lot more than 50,000.
A Latin word, pronounced “Iran”.

Ian, your posts, from the perspective of having "been there, lived through it" have provided many of us more of an education on Middle East affairs than either our Publik Skool or the Lying Media.
"Who cares about Iran..." Unfortunately for us and the civilized world, Iran is a pest hole of religious fanatics who hate us and are sitting on a crap ton of oil that can be readily converted to money. Money that can buy high tech weapons, fund anti-American terrorist organizations, destabilize our European allies, and create a major pain in the ass for us and the civilized world. I also note in passing that the Soviet Union ... er Russia denied asylum to one of the mullahs a couple of weeks ago. Russia has its own Islamist population, and isn't about to bring in a radical fanatic.
