Fresh air, sunshine, grubbing in the dirt. Best Rx ever.

Only made better by adding dog.

My quince tree has two blossoms on it. It's still a sapling, and I'm gently scolding it for flowering before the last freeze (not that plants, cats, or kids listen)... but wandering out to check on it and the fig, and bemoan that I didn't get the lawnmower repaired before the first rain that woke up the grass still counts as sunlight exposure and a good day.

It does, indeed.

The mesquite out at the lake lied to me -- it's leafing out. It's not supposed to do that until after the last freeze of the year.

The pasture behind us that's over run with them has been greening for the last week-ten days.

Great advice from your wise doctor who sounds like my Grandfather’s old Doc way back when he said “doing such-and-such instead of the basic things I told you to do is like a farmer trying to fertilize his fields by sitting on his fence and farting 💨” 😂😂

Yep, we all need more sunshine, outdoors, fewer modern distractions (screens & artificial lights), exercise, fresh water, and Whole Foods. Now why does that seem so hard to us all that we can relate??

And why isn’t that just common sense to raise our kids that way and not introduce them to screens etc until college (or even better age 25+. Ok, well at least I wish it were no earlier than High school.)

Anyway thanks for the reminder as I’m suffering the winter blues plus my Veteran dad’s stress over VA stuff and my relatives dying. I’ll get outside today. Thanks! 😊

You're welcome.

This time of the year when the thermostick is above 50 F and its sunny; we denizens of WNY leave the comfort of our shelter to....do post-winter yard cleanup work! Started that before rains and a blast of snow afflicted me.

Time to git'er done; Spring Turkey Season will soon be upon us..... Won't be doing yard work if there's huntin' to be done!

I think families can enable each other in the get outside thing. Walkies with the kids just a bit a day seems to be a good idea? I see that in my town. Or bikes or scooters.

Been puttering about in the backyard, getting beds in for veg and making adjustments to Quackatraz so it'll hold chickens for a couple three weeks. Walked in the other night after a day of fighting with 100 year old lumber and tin (salvage) and took off my shirt. My lower arms - from about the elbow to my wrists are tan. Seriously, starting to look like my Lebanese ancestry tan. Hands? Kinda look like the guy who'd been at the bottom of Canyon Lake for over a year. Looked at B and remarked, "Got my Iraq tanlines back, hon."

By all means, go drown some worms...best if done from a small boat...by yourself...away from everyone else...with a nice bit of water between you and the nearest human being (or not being)Where your most vital job is watching your rod tip, in case some idiotic fish decides to rudely intrude upon your blessed solitude...take a couple sammiches, and some beer, if you like...make a day of it...when you return, you'll find the world a rather less hostile and stupid place...

I concur with you. I know my modd tends to be better if I spend some time doing stuff outside. Today, while smoking a pork butt, I took down my back fence and did some yard work (prepping for major house remodeling). I know my mood is better for having spent the time outside.

I've just gotten the perfect exercise/sunshine product right here in my house. Just got a puppy....8 weeks old and needing walkies Q2-3H in order for the waterworks to function. Thinking I'm gonna get my steps in now. Besides, it is so much fun to watch him discover the Great World Out There. Grass, sticks, rocks, acorns....and now my refrain is, "spit that out, spit that out".....

Been forcing myself to get unwanted exposure to the evil dayball since getting laid off by putting my Manx into his harness & giving him some supervised outside time.

I am sure that viewing that, created some sore eyes.

I've been head down either on my boys adventure or antromech series short story/series pitch. Went outside for the first time in several days yesterday to run an errand. It does make a difference. The redbuds and Satan's flowering tree (Bradford pear) are blooming. Will probably go sit out on the deck a bit.

There definitely seems to be something about the sunlight that makes me feel better. And in the twilight of evening a fire, outside and controlled say in a specific area designed for such.

I noticed that I felt better after moving around outside for awhile, and take it just a little further. Get wet in rain, go out in the cold, walk a different direction, just get some interaction with another human being if you can. It's difficult to meet new people sitting in your easy chair, and if they just come by your place, it usually means they found some "evidence" and the nice people might not be as friendly as you hoped. 😁

I try to get at least one walk in every day except in the worst weather or when I'm ill, and when I can I walk to work (about 9/10 mile each way). At my age I figure the way to keep moving is to...keep moving.

Drowning worms time is coming up here in Michigan. I am blessed to live in a state where there is a LOT of places to get water therapy - as in, just being on or near the stuff, not in it. I live less than ten miles from several primo fishing spots on larger lakes around here, so if I want to drown a dozen or so worms on a Sunday afternoon, it's an easy hop. I'm happy to fish, and I do catch and release so I can have the fun of catching the little buggers again later. And we get some nice fighters here! My bucket list includes a deep water fishing run on the Great Lakes for sturgeon and muskie!
