I like the roof goat, and I am now invested in the lives of his people. Also, where would one find a roof goat of one's own? Hypothetically, of course.

That's an interesting premise, but I have to say I didn't get that berserkgang was the issue in that scene.

It's not -- other than the mentions of "green" -- this is just a day-to-day scene from their backstory I wrote.

William H Stoddard's avatar

Right. I wasn't sure what "green" was about.

When he's berserk, he perceives a green tint in his visual field due to:

Biliverdin-Induced Chromatic Visual Distortion, and Epinephrine-Induced Emotional-Visual Synesthesia from the borderline-toxic levels of adrenaline.

The "Green" is his shorthand for something he doesn't quite understand, and his wife has picked up the term.

Seriously -- I'm up to my hips in hypothetical berserker biochemistry and neurochemistry happily provided by enthusiastic scientists.

Ah, so he was on the edge of hulking out? "You won't like me when I'm angry." I got the anger, but I was assuming that he was on the edge of Laying Down The Law, not of smashing things up.

* * * * *

Some years ago I had a curious dream: I was walking down a street, past what seemed to be a row of shops, and was in front of one with an attractive dark wood door with a large glass pane inset. And I realized I was dreaming, and it seemed to me that if I smashed things up I could wake up. So I turned to the door, and I grew huge and enormously strong, and tore or punched it out of its frame . . . and then I was standing there and thinking, "How am I going to explain this?" as I looked at the wrecked store.

And THEN I woke up.

*grins* Ah, but Roof Goat shows who he loves, and how far he's willing to go to make her happy... even putting up with Sudden Roof Goat... Which means when someone pulls the pin, we're all gonna be rooting for him.

Funny enough, there's a scene I wrote yesterday where Noelle's father uses Roof Goat as exactly that to Noelle's narcissistic [deleted] of a mother.

I *really* don't like that woman.

Is this a John Wick scenario, except instead of the bad guys killing the dog, they kill the wife? 'cause if so, I'm out. I know he needs a trigger, but maybe Roof Goat could take one for the team instead...

Ian's avatar

Noelle's backstory is messed-up enough that if the story is headed towards her getting killed, I'll cut sling-load.

I don't write those kinds of stories.

Jaunty's avatar

Alright, I'm back in.

I want more Roof Goat please.

as to roof goat. a book series i have really like is Beware of Chicken by Casual Farmer. It was a royalroads book that was pretty viral and now on amazon. he is like 5 books in now.. anyway it has the farm animal (chicken, well and a few others, that will kill you dead if you mess with his master. it's written a little in the style of Chinese fantasy, isekia :) but author seems to be canadian of asian descent so it is much better written than a lot of those. I'm seeing roof goat having potential.. does he ever start talking? he really should.

Beware Of Chicken is one of my absolute favorite series, ever.

Was that a stream of conciousless stand alone scrivening or did I miss something from an earlier body of work (in which case, mea culpa) and this was a story line cul de sac dribulation of wordly warble to test reading comprehension and to prove that psychobabble is not just the field of psychology alone, which has subsets of folks in such abundance as to make it not a science at all but rather voodoo with bad bongo drum syncopation meant to induce an upchuckery of wyrd word salad to what end who knows wtf? Urp. Apology accepted.

My Mom and her sisters talk about how when they were young, and the family was going to go anywhere requiring a drive, the first step was my Grandfather sending one of the girls out to chase the goats off the car.

The Roof Goat scene sold it for me. I’ll buy it just to follow the goat. Though Remy has definitely caught my attention also.

Roof goat got me intrigued. I figured he was an Entity Of Some Variety and wifey picked up on it quick. Very interested to see where this'n goes!

I call that discovery writing. But that might just be me. I think it worked out pretty well. Kudos to you.

My paternal grandmother had lots of goats on her small farm, mostly for the milk. I mainly remember them being on top of everything, all the time. It’s what goats do.
